HOW BAD WAS FLY-TIPPING IN 2017?

One million. That is the number of times that plies of waste dumped across England were reported to councils in 2016-17.

It is a big number, one that shows how big of an issue fly-tipping is.

The latter is defined as ‘the illegal deposit of any waste on to land that does not have a licence to accept it,’ and is a serious offence in the United Kingdom.

Yet, regardless of its seriousness, fly-tipping is one of the most common crimes across England.

In 2016-17, for instance, there were 1,602 prosecutions for fly-tipping, and 98% of these resulted in a conviction. In the same period, councils also handed out a total of 56,000 fixed penalty notices for the same offence.

At KwikSweep, we believe that fly-tipping is a plague. As waste removal experts, we think that more needs to be done to stop it.

To start, fly-tipping is expensive. As experts in house removal, we know this very well. Every year, enforcement in this area costs councils around £17 million, and this is on top of the yearly £60 million spent cleaning up fly-tipped rubbish.

Also, fly-tipping is unsightly, and unhealthy. For this reason, getting fly-tipped waste removed must always be done promptly, so as to avoid further dangers.

Finally, fly-tipping is an exponential issue. In just over a year, the number of fly-tipping incidents has increased by 103% in Ealing, 216% in Exeter, and 352% in Cheltenham. The viral increase in fly-tipping incidents needs to be treated with urgency.

Due to the gravity of the above issues, KwikSweep has chosen to specialise in fly-tipped waste, too.

Our aim is simple. We intend to reduce the amount of fly-tipped waste sent to landfill by recycling it. We are thus committed to tackling fly-tipping in London, even though the latter issue has shown no signs of retreat in 2017.

To this end, KwikSweep’s skilled teams remove fly-tipped waste within 24 hours, and work following all guidelines outlined under section 33 of the Environment Protection Act 1990 and Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

With us, ending fly-tipping is easy. Waste removal is our speciality.
