KARMA AS A SOLUTION TO FOOD WASTE?

Karma?

Yes, Karma.

But not the “karma” you are thinking of now. Karma is a newly-launched Swedish start-up that aims to solve London’s food waste problem.

Since we, at Kwik Sweep, know a thing or two about waste disposal and recycling in London, we decided to see what Karma really is about – and if you are already wondering … yes, we were impressed by it.

Karma connects restaurants with surplus food to hungry people with an eye for a bargain and is easy to use.

Here, we sum up how the app works:

  • Restaurants post on the app when they have meals that would otherwise go to waste.
  • Karma users receive push notifications to let them know a meal is available.
  • If the user likes the food, he / she can see the location of the restaurant.
  • The user can pay and arrange collection through the app.

Karma is bargain for all.

Firstly, it benefits consumers, who can benefit from 50 per cent discounts on high quality meals.

Secondly, it profits partner restaurants, which have the potential to increase their yearly revenue by up to £30,000 from food that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Finally, and most importantly, it saves the environment. Karma’s usage reduces the amount of food that goes to waste, but there is more to it than just this. Karma’s data can be used by restaurant to create strategies for sustainability – if the patterns of when and what food is wastes are mapped, restaurants can learn how to reduce their environmental impact.

According to Elsa Bernadotte, one of the founders of Karma: “right now we throw away 1.3 billion tonnes of food every year worldwide, which is actually a huge economic loss.” With Karma, this can change.

The reason why we like Karma is that it’s mission mirrors ours. Karma tries to give a second life to what would otherwise be wasted, just like Kwik Sweep.

Our services include waste collection and waste removal – and are always carried out with our reduce, reuse, recycle mentality.

So, should you need help with waste, get in touch with us now!

You will not be disappointed.
