CAN WASTE AND BITCOIN BE FRIENDS?

The very first trade of bales of recyclable paper in the United Kingdom using Bitcoin has taken place.

Prismm Environmental, a Kent-based specialist in waste consultancy and management, has bought numerous loads of paper from Parry & Evans using the crypto-currency Bitcoin to pay for the service.

This news, to the KwikSweep team, is great! We, just like Prismm Environmental managing director Mike Jackson said, “hope this is the first of many transactions that take place in Bitcoin in the future.”

The reason why we, at KwikSweep, find the use of Bitcoin useful is that this consists of crypto money, and is thus not printed on paper, saving trees from being cut down.

Though at present KwikSweep has no plans to supplement its services with the use of Bitcoin, we do recognise that this may be the future of waste and garbage removal.

As Jackson noted, “using Bitcoin worked for both us and Parry & Evans as there was no transaction fee to pay, and they received instant and secure payment. It also shows the intention of both companies to collaborate on technology in future.”

Bitcoin, then, may have a future that goes hand in hand with the environment. After all, it is a secure, paper-free currency that, if lasting, can become key in the fight against waste, fly-tipping, and pollution.

Yet, if this is to happen, Bitcoin has to solve one of its biggest issues, energy consumption. In fact, due to its surge in price, one Bitcoin transaction now uses as much energy as a house in a week.

We, at KwikSweep, would love to see this problem solved. The failure to address this may in fact render the future of bitcoin separate from that of the environment.

At present, whether waste and Bitcoin can be friends is still to be seen. Should the answer be positive, KwikSweep, London’s leading waste removal and house clearing business, will be ready to adapt to this new challenge.
