SIX REASONS WHY LONDON NEEDS RECYCLING

On average, only around 30% of household waste in London goes for recycling. KwikSweep is here to invert this trend. And here is why.

  1. Landfill taxes are expensive. Recycling is not.

In London, landfill taxes cost citizens around £300m a year. Recycling, on the other hand, is cheap. Using recycled aluminium is twice as cheap as using fresh aluminium, and the same holds true for almost all common materials.

  1. Recycling will save the Thames.

The Thames is dirty. Three-quarters of all flounders swimming in the river have, at some point, ingested plastic, which makes up 10% of all waste found in the Thames. As plastic takes up to 450 years to break down, it is an issue that must be addressed. The solution? Recycling.

  1. London must set an example.

London is known to be one of the most influential cities in the world. If it started to invest on widespread recycling, others would follow its example. London’s success could thus prompt a domino effect, and benefit the world as a whole.

  1. Recycling is a profitable business.

Altruism and environment aside, recycling can stimulate the economy. In fact, it can create jobs, as preparing material for recycling is more labour-intensive than both incineration and landfilling. Industries engaged in recycling employ ten times more people than traditional waste management firms do.

  1. London needs to be healthier.

London is very, very polluted. A comprehensive recycling programme could, however, contribute to the overall well-being and health of its community. Fewer landfills means less waste, better property values, as well as interest in saving and protecting the environment and its inhabitants.

  1. Recycling may lessen London’s traffic issue.

The transportation of raw materials into the city creates congestion. If London were to recycle more, the demand for raw materials would decrease, and so would the number of trucks on London’s streets.

To us, recycling is the way forward.

Let’s make London a cleaner place, together.
