IS BREXIT GOING TO AFFECT BRITISH WASTE?

The answer is, probably yes.

There still is no clarity on the post-Brexit trade arrangements on waste and its management.

This is worrying. If it becomes more difficult, and costly, to export waste outside of Britain, more waste could be sent to landfill sites in the UK.

Every year, the United Kingdom exports and average of 3 to 4 tonnes of material for recycling to the European Union. Should this be subject to change, the British recycling rates may risk of falling dramatically.

Brexit could have a series of damaging impacts on the British waste industry, including the introduction of tariffs, and non-tariff barriers, which would make it more difficult to get rid of excess waste.

Now more than ever, then, waste disposal and recycling must be protected. This is something we, at KwikSweep, are intensely committed to.

Our business is among the best for the recycling of waste. KwikSweep’s impact reduces fly-tipping, and serves Londoners better than most council collection services.

The KwikSweep team fears Brexit may have a negative impact on recycling.

We believe the recycling of unwanted goods and waste is fundamental. This is why we commit to giving a second opportunity to all our collected waste that can be recycled.

Brexit should not endanger the recycling progress Britain has made in recent years.

A bad deal has the potential of causing all sorts of problems.

Increased fly-tipping is something we, at KwikSweep, fear might arise in consequence to a bad deal on waste. This would worsen the already critical waste situation of Britain, to the benefit of no one.

Increased landfill waste is also a factor that may appear in the wake of a bad waste deal. Should less waste be recycled, it would be sent to landfill sites, polluting our soil and the environment.

This is why we need to collect and recycle waste. This is why we, at KwikSweep, will not give up on our mission of making London a cleaner, greener, and junk-free city.
