EUROSTAR IS SAYING GOODBYE TO PLASTIC

Wait, what?

If those are the first two words you thought of, fear not. We, at Kwik Sweep, had the exact same reaction.

It looks like Eurostar is planning to mirror Kwik Sweep’s efforts in terms of waste prevention and eco-friendliness. In fact, the high-speed train operator between the UK and mainland Europe has set itself a total of 10 new targets to fully incorporate environmental sustainability into its business.

According to ‘Climate Action,’ a partner of ‘UN Environment,’ Eurostar’s new plan targets energy efficiency and reducing plastic waste as key components to making further eco-friendly progress.

Their plan is ambitious.

It includes steps to reduce all plastic usage and paper ticketing by 50 per cent over the next two years. What is even more exciting is that Eurostar is fully committed to this project.

To kick-start this journey, it has already eliminated the use of plastic straws on board of all its trains and in its business lounges.

This approach is meant to motivate Eurostar to find alternative to fossil fuels on train journeys by 2030 and to run its major UK facility on renewable energy by the same year.

Over the past eight years, the company has already made progress by reducing its carbon emissions by 32 per cent and cutting its waste by 50 per cent. Yet, it is now committed to do even more.

The motivation of Eurostar’s Chief Executive, Nicolas Petrovic, is similar to the one that drives Kwik Sweep’s directors Jide Lawal

In Petrovic’s words: “Given the scale of the challenge facing the environment, we are now setting stretching new targets. High speed rail plays a pivotal role in encouraging the switch to more sustainable modes of transport and we are committed to increasing our energy efficiency and reducing our waste across the business.”

His journey is still long, but we are confident he will succeed.
