A NEW LIFE FOR LONDON’S WASTE FOOD

Kwik Sweep is fond of innovation. We love all projects that help save our city’s environment and recently City Harvest has caught our eye.

City Harvest rescues wasted food from London stores and redistributes it to charities and non-for-profits. It is similar to Kwik Sweep, in that it, too, strives to give waste a second chance.

To date, City Harvest has redistributed over 735 tonnes of food, which is enough to create at least 1.7 million meals for vulnerable people. Over the past twelve months, the company has also doubled its capacity, and can now count on seven vans travelling across London.

Kwik Sweep is proud of City Harvest. Their effort mirrors our struggle to recycle the waste we collect during private clearances and junk removals.

They, too, have started from the bottom. From “going around and popping their head in” local stores with just one loaned van, they now work with several supermarket chains. Kwik Sweep did the same over 11 years ago, and is now London’s most successful waste removal company.

Recycling is key to both our businesses.

Every morsel that City Harvest collects is either handed directly to charities, stored in its new depot in Acton, or handed to a Shropshire farmer for pigfeed (in the rare cases where food goes out of date).

This small company is really giving London’s wasted food another life.

According to chef Andrew Calvocoressi, who works at homeless charity The Upper Room, recycling food is a must, and in his own words: “I’ve been cooking for 40 years and I don’t think I have ever cooked so well because the produce is so good, and that’s half the battle.”

So, should you need to get rid of your food, think of recycling it instead!

If, however, your main concern is rubbish removal, get in touch with us. Kwik Sweep is always ready to support its clients and meet their demands. We are quick in providing quotes on all our jobs, which we strive to complete in less than 24 hours
